Have you ever wondered, “How can I heal and still make sure that I am getting enough protein?”
Is there a clean plant based protein powder that can help me to get enough protein in my diet?
In my philosophy of healing, I resort to greater levels of fruits and vegetables to really help people heal over worrying about protein intake.
Common sources of protein are typically filled with fat (even lean protein) and fat has to be processed by the liver and slows down our metabolism. Below I recommend a really clean, low fat plant based protein powder.
Unless you are working out a lot, most people don’t need tons of protein to heal. I have also found that women need less protein than men for obvious reasons.
How much protein should I eat per day? I suggest 05-0.7/per pound of your ideal body weight, not what you may weigh now if you are trying to lose weight. So for me at 170 pounds this would be 85-119g per day. I have found that I can thrive just fine on less than this though, especially if I was not working out.
Good Clean Plant Based Protein
So, here is what I suggest for those that still want to get enough good clean protein without adding tons of other calories or are working out a lot and want to maintain muscle mass but still really want to heal from something.
- Sprout Living Simple Pumpkin Seed Protein Powder (#ad). This organic plant based protein powder is gluten free, artificial flavor free, sweetener free and non-dairy. It is also low is fat. 2 scoops will give you 20 grams of protein. You can mix in a little organic coconut sugar if you wish for flavor. I use this almost every night after I get done exercising.
- Essential Amino Acids Powder (EAA). There are 20 amino acids that make up protein. This powder contains the 9 essential amino acids that you have to get from dietary sources. You body cannot manufacture them on its own. Valine, leucine, and isoleucine are called the branched chain aminos, which are consumed for muscle growth and recovery. They are found in this powder. The powder does not taste great, but I just mix it in with the pumpkin seed powder and chug it.
- Branched Chain Amino Acids. All amino acids are need to build muscle, but as just mentioned, you can take these separately to help supplement for increased muscle growth. 1/2 teaspoon of this powder is 1.5 grams of BCAA. Typically, people only use these if they are looking to bulk up. You can see the comparisons of this powder to food sources below as a guide.
I usually work out at night, so I take the plant based protein powder and EAAs together in water and then eat just more fruit and vegetables at night for dinner.
Cheers!
