Pranic Healing – Balancing Chakras and Endocrine Glands
In Ayurvedic medicine, which is the traditional medicine of India, pranic healing is an integral part of this system. In Chinese medicine, prana is synonymous with qi (chi). Qi can be translated as “air” or literally “oxygen” and even “electricity” and “life force.” We are electrical beings that breathe or use air for life every second of our existence. Our nervous system runs and communicates with electricity. The Chinese and Indians didn’t call it electricity or air, but prana and qi. The word for spirit in the Old Testament of the bible is ruach. Ruach also means breath or air. All of these terms are synonymous with each other. These terms are just different words for our life force or life energy, which powers and runs the human body.
The nervous, acupuncture and chakra systems are all cousins of one another, verifiable with actual Western science. They all have different functions, but all run off of the same “energy.” Whereas the acupuncture system is related to all of our organs in the body, the chakra system is related to all of our endocrine or hormonal glands. We have seven major glands in our bodies, which correspond with the seven major chakras. Those glands are the pineal, pituitary, thyroid, thymus, pancreas, adrenals and ovaries/testes. As it is in Chinese medicine, these chakras are far more than just physical hormonal glands; they also house consciousness within them. Pranic healing is about bringing balance not only physically, but energetically and emotionally to these parts of the body.
Just as learning a sport requires time, patience and tons of practice to become an expert, pranic healing is much the same. With dedication, one can learn to feel these subtle energies in each of these parts of the body. Each of these parts of the body contains our life, stories and emotions that we hold onto. When something negative occurs in our life, it can affect one of more of our chakras, causing an imbalance. These imbalances can lead to health problems.
Here is a very short summary of what each chakra deals with in pranic healing and what aspect can be balanced by working with these parts of the body.
1st chakra (adrenal glands): sexuality, drive/motivation, willpower/strength, coping/overwhelm, paranoia/obsession, fear
2nd chakra (ovaries/testes): reproduction, sensuality/sexuality, self-preservation, life acceptance, creativity, release, drives/strength (testes)
3rd chakra (pancreas): adaptability, receiving, worry/over-thinking, subconscious mind, anxiety
4th chakra (thymus): self-acceptance, energy, heart protection, defensive patterns
5th chakra (thyroid): communication, self-expression, activity (metabolism), energy, giving, choked by life, suffocation
6th chakra (pituitary): feminine energy, harmony, insight, intuition, creativity
7th chakra (pineal): masculine energy, wellbeing, balance, rhythm, spirituality
Let’s say that you have trouble speaking with public speaking. An imbalance could occur in the thyroid because it is related to your ability to be able to fully communicate and openly express yourself in the world. By correcting an imbalance in this chakra, you can actually be more empowered to speak, communicate and express yourself. In the process, your physical thyroid may actual heal as well.
Pranic healing is a wonderful modality that works to influence a system in the body that not many people are familiar with, but that is just as important as any other system in our body.
